PLEASE NOTE

The large Pow’r Pitch is not suitable for young children under the age of seven years. A parent or responsible person must supervise children using Pow’r Pitch at all times.

Description

The large Pow’r Pitch mat has more surface area (1m x 0.5m), allowing for wider placement of the batsman’s  feet when hitting the ball. The 6m cord length creates a more realistic batting experince as if batting on a full length cricket pitch.

Components:

  • A 6m length of elastic cord
  • A practice ball (not a hard cricket ball) attached to the elastic
  • A mat (1m x 0.5m) made of artificial grass turf, attached to the other end of the elastic

Instructions and Safety

Pow’r Pitch is available in small (ages 5+) and large (ages 7+) sizes. For safety, a responsible adult must always supervise children and review all provided instructions.

Please READ the following information carefully.

Safety:

  1. Before using Pow’r Pitch, be aware that the longer the stretch of the elastic cord, the faster the speed of the ball.
  2. The Bowler must initially pitch the ball to the Batsman with NO stretch in the cord to let the Batsman gain confidence in hitting the ball first.
  3. The cord can then gradually be stretched further, until both Batsman and Bowler can judge the speed and bounce of the ball.
  4. For an inexperienced or young Batsman, there is no need to stretch the cord. The ball can be pitched gently to the Batsman who can then hit the ball without feeling nervous.
  5. The weight of the Batsman’s body anchors the elastic cord to the Pow’r Pitch mat. Do not use any other object or attachment method to try and anchor the mat or cord.
  6. The Bowler must not pitch the ball before the Batsman is ready as the ball could hit the batsman and cause pain or injury.
  7. Do not stretch the cord to its maximum as this will damage the cord and may lead to snapping and possible injury.
  8. The Pow’rPitch must be securely packed away after use, out of reach of young children, to prevent possible entanglement in the cord.

Instructions:

Location

Place the mat on a flat surface at least with a 15 metre radius away from other people and objects (a car etc.). A flat grass surface is the ideal place.

Batsman’s Instructions

  1. Stand on the mat either with both feet behind the white line (crease) or with one foot behind and the other foot in front.
  2. Your body weight anchors the elastic cord.
  3. Get ready for the Bowler to pitch the ball.
  4. Keep your back foot grounded on the mat and play your shot.
  5. If you are nervous that the Bowler is going to pitch a very fast ball you can simply step off the mat. The stretch in the cord will be removed and the ball will not be pitched.

Bowler’s Instructions

  1. Wait until the Batsman is standing on the mat.
  2. Hold the ball in your hand and walk away from the Batsman  to stretch the cord.
  3. Pitch the ball to the batsman using a slight upwards flick of the hand, to make the ball land just in front of the batsman. Variations on how the ball is flicked, either slightly higher or lower, or slightly off to the right or left, can mix up the position where the ball lands allowing the batsman to practise different shots (Fig. 1). An overarm flick can be used for more experienced batsmen (Fig. 2).
  4. WARNING! The longer the stretch of the elastic, the faster the ball. Do not pitch a very fast ball, as this could impact negatively on a Batsman’s confidence and possibly hurt them if the ball hits them.

Checks

Untwist the cord before each pitch to stop knots from forming.

Storage

Check the whole length of the cord for any damage and where the cord attaches to the mat. If there is damage due to wear and tear, then do not use the Pow’r Pitch.
If the mat is wet, allow it to dry, then pack the Pow’ Pitch away securely when finished.
